Here was my goal in designing this vest: I wanted a travel vest that combined technology with a classic look and feel. Warm, weather resistant, and full of pockets, yet elegant enough to be worn in any city.
I love vests because they’re small, packable, and easy to throw on — for example, over our Gramercy Blazer. And because they give me just the right amount of extra warmth without making me too hot when I go inside. Adding it to your bag for a trip is a piece of cake.
Here’s a quick tour of the details, and if you missed the original announcement, you can see the background information on how we built it.
Meet the fabric:
The fabric weighs 3.9 oz per yard. We weighed one of our sample medium vests, and it came in at 15.6 oz. The shell is treated with a thin DWR waterproof layer with minimal effect on the look and feel of the fabric that still allows for breathability.
The insulation is a high-performance PrimaLoft® polyfill made with 60% post-consumer recycled material, so it’s warm without weighing you down, extremely soft, and made with recycled content.
Meet the pockets:

Interior:
When you think of a typical travel vest with hidden pockets, it’s usually something that is a little over-the-top: lots of pockets, external zippers. Built for an African safari.
On the other hand, outdoor vests tend to be ultra sporty, very puffy down, without a lot of travel features built in.
My idea was to make a travel vest that was elegant enough for cities and high performance enough to keep up with my active life. Ours has 7 total pockets, including hidden pockets and zippered security ones for carrying your phone, iPad, wallet, keys, etc.
How to wear it:
My favorite way to wear the Horizon Vest is thrown on as an extra layer. Could be over a dress shirt, a lightweight sweater, or blazer - it's the perfect addition to your wardrobe of favorite travel clothes.
Here are a few ways we’ve seen it styled out in the wild:
1. Over a blazer
I designed the vest specifically to throw it on over the top of my Gramercy Blazer. I love the combo of the blue vest with a blue blazer.
2. With a performance dress shirt
If you don’t need as much warmth or to look as formal, it also looks great over any of our Meridian Dress Shirts.
3. With denim
It also looks cool paired with our new Departure Jeans, which we're excited to share with you.
This lightweight travel vest with pockets makes a great gift that will last for years on end.
I hope you or your loved one wears it well.
