Meet the Ascender 5 Pocket Pants

Fabric is what drives our product development. Because the first step in making products that can go anywhere and keep up with our adventures is ensuring the fabric has all the technical capabilities we expect. 

But it also has to look and feel amazing, so that we actually enjoy wearing it and look good wherever we go. You can’t imagine how many fabrics we reject.

So when we found, tested, and fell in love with what we now call our Ascender fabric — and the Ascender Chinos were met with rave reviews — we knew we wanted to make more products out of it.

We also know that not every guy wants to wear chinos, but jeans are often too casual for every environment. The solution? The “five pocket pants” style. 

Meet the Ascender 5 Pocket Pants: refined utility pants with 10 pockets — based off our Departure Jeans 2.0 design and made with our Ascender fabric.

Meet the Fabric

Our Ascender fabric is soft and features built-in stretch so it’s incredibly comfortable to wear, but it also boasts impressive technical performance: 

• 100% technical polyester twill.
• Wrinkle-resistant and breathable.
• Moisture-wicking, quick-dry, anti-microbial.
• Machine-washable. Line or tumble dry.
• Lightweight 5.31 oz per yard fabric.

During our wear testing, this fabric outdid everything else we sampled. It keeps wrinkles, odors, and moisture away — and it’s lightweight and breathable.

It also takes color well and has a nice matte finish, so these 5 pocket twill pants will look great wherever you go. We’re launching with three neutral earth tones that will pair well with the rest of your closet (and our product line), from t-shirts to blazers.

These pants will be available in Regular and Slim fit — like our jeans (instead of offering a Tailored fit like our chinos). The difference is that Slim is more fitted throughout, whereas Tailored were only more tapered below the knee compared to a Regular fit.

The whole concept of men’s 5 pocket pants is to pair chino twill fabric with a denim design, specifically featuring the standard five pockets of traditional jeans. 

So you’ll find two scoop pockets in front, one coin pocket on the front right, and two patch pockets on the back. We also incorporated other classic denim details: metal rivets, metal shanks, and a paper patch.

Following our Departure Jeans 2.0 pocketing design, we added five special pockets to support secure and easy everyday carry — for a total of 10 travel-friendly pockets.

We included a small multi-tool pocket (perfect for a KeySmart), a concealed interior front pocket, our signature phone pocket in the back right waistband, and a hidden pocket under the back left yoke, with its own concealed passport pocket inside.
