Take Thanksgiving - the busiest travel day in the US - combine it with the pressure of a short duration trip, and you have what is probably the most important weekend of the year to fly with carry-on only. Thats because, should the airline lose your luggage, you’ll appear at Thanksgiving wearing a football jersey.
As motivation, I'd like to introduce you to two hypothetical packers: one who goes to Thanksgiving with an extra pair of pants, two more t-shirts, another dress shirt, and a sweater that all add up to checking a bag. But, there is another traveler, one who is traveling light as they left all of that at home. And that's who we all should be.
How To Fly With Just Carry-On
Wear One Pant Everyday
For four days, there’s no reason you can’t wear the same Envoy or Ascender Chino everyday. And, because you’ll wear them on the plane, so far you’re actually carrying zero luggage.
Layer Your Workout Clothes
I imagine at some point you might wear a t-shirt, possibly layered under a dress shirt or a blazer. That t-shirt should be the same one you worked out in the day before. I do this all the time, as our incredible Threshold doesn’t hold odor, dries fast and can be worn for days.
Layer A Blazer
From day #1, a way to use our blazer has been to layer it on the plane. You end up eliminating a sweater. And if you need a warm sweater or a coat you can (see next tip...)
Borrow The Big Stuff
Don’t bring a heavy jacket. I bet your brother / uncle / Dad has one you can wear. Having to stuff a big coat in an overhead bin is the worst.
Do Laundry There
It’s not a joke that doing laundry under your mother’s roof may legitimately make her feel like all is right in the world. You’re home. So take advantage of it.
We have many customers for whom “I would never pack a bag”. But for others, this is a leap.
Do it, and I bet you’ll be proud. Maybe a little giddy and even smug when you arrive on the other end.
